REBEL CREATIVITY FOR AN ETHICAL FUTURE
Editor’s Note: Introducing Force Majeure
FORCE MAJEURE: A situation imperatively requiring a solution, even if it does not respect the rules in force.
The fashion industry has lost its authority. Hidden behind smoke and mirrors, it is a leading source of social injustices, environmental destruction and human disconnection.
Art and design have always been political, a witness and critic of our times.
As a designer and stylist, I am responsible for establishing sustainability as a core principle in the fashion industry—not an afterthought or a branding strategy.
For years, I have dreamt of creating a fashion media platform that promotes incredible artistry and unwavering accountability.
That is FORCE MAJEURE. It showcases innovative artisans, designers, and change makers who use the fashion industry to comment on our social structures and offer solutions for a more ethical future.
We are creating a space that values creativity, tradition, human creation, environmental health, unity and progress.
Our first issue is called RE-GENERATION.
As many dive into trends with the constant and insatiable need for more new things, we focus on secondhand clothing, repurposed deadstock materials and upcycling existing garments.
For the fantastic creatives featured, using used materials isn’t a restriction. On the contrary, it’s a unique source of inspiration and an opportunity to create change.
Whether deconstructing discarded clothing and accessories, creatively reusing our makeup, designing systems to scale upcycling, creating art, promoting vintage or influencing legislation, there are endless ways to curb our wasteful habits.
While it can sometimes feel overwhelming or insufficient, our actions are nonetheless impactful. We may not get it entirely right, but there is room to learn, build, and share.
That is FORCE MAJEURE.
